I saw the doc once at the begining and every two weeks i see the midwife and thats just the same as with my first baby. Midwifes have all the knowlegde on pregnancy and labour where as docs are trained on a million things and a small part of that is pregnancy and labour. I love my midwife and gives me great and very very helpful answers on my questions. I last time had two midwifes and no doc helping me in my labour and it went really well.
All the best X
References :
I went Mid-wife vs doctor with my son and my next I will do the same unless a doctor is needed. They can do anything and everything a doc can unless something major is needed... ie: c-section. My mid-wife was great. My labor was 39.5 hours. she stayed by my side thru it all. A doctor won't. You will see your doctor moments before giving birth.

Remember if you decide mid-wife, it will be a much more personal experience. She will be with you thru it all, take care of you & baby... With a mid-wife as many family members as you feel comfy with will be allowed by your side. You might think that is crazy to have more than hubby or mom. But so many people are waiting for that little one and you will be at a place where it just doesn't matter. My hubby, mom, step-dad, sister & step-mom were all there. Heck, the president could have come and I wouldn't have cared as long as he helped hold my legs up... lol You'll understand what I mean later if your labor is long. She made them all feel like she was part of our family. They were all very impressed with her :) Plus with a mid-wife I was placed in a room at the hospital much like my own bedroom, wallhangings, reclining chairs for the family, wallpaper, tv... it really was a 'homey & comfy' atmosphere. Plus I had a hot tub :) With doc... You are carted to the delivery room....

Its up to you sweetie... And what will make you most comfy. I was the ONLY person I know that went mid-wife and that didn't stop me any :) Good luck and congrats!!
References :
I absolutely loved my doctor! She was with me throughout my pregnancy, labor and delivery and I never thought of switching. I never found her to be impersonal or controlling.

My sister-in-law used a midwife, and she loved her, though there were some concerns about my little niece in utero and post-delivery (but she was born in a hospital, and everything checked out and she is now happy and healthy). My sister-in-law also never thought of switching.

So, as you can see, it's not so much the title as it is the person who is delivering your baby. I would not recommend writing someone off because they were a doctor and not a midwife or vice versa. If you are interested in a midwife, by all means check it out. If that doesn't work out, you could switch to a doctor. The goal is a healthy baby at the end of the line!
References :
I loved my midwife. I am an L&D nurse and I work with both, and I have to say that I think that the care and personal attention received from a midwife is much better than an OB-GYN.

Many certified nurse midwives work out of clinics that are associated with physicians, so that if your pregnancy is anything other than normal, you have a team of both midwives and physicians, which is ideal.

Midwives often spend most of your labor with you in the room, providing support, encouragement, etc. all through labor and they do deliver the baby as well. Doctors essentially show up to "catch" the baby.

Midwives can do everything a physician can except perform c-sections. You can have pain relief with a midwife too - some people believe you can't if you have a midwife.

Doulas are also good support. They are trained in laboring women and relaxation techniques, positions that are helpful, etc. but they are not medically trained so therefore you need a midwife or a doctor to actually monitor the baby and do the delivery.
References :
RN, mom of 3, 2 delivered by physicians and 1 by a midwife.

I LOVED my midwife. Plus, I was in control of labor, not some doctor at a hospital that doesn't even know your name. I ended up having to go to the hospital to deliver because I went 44 weeks and they finally made me induce. My midwife was there with me the whole way, and made sure that my wants and needs were communicated to the staff. Having her there took the liability factor out of it for the hospital and they were much more giving to my demands. (and believe me, there were plenty!) I would 100% reccomend a midwife over a doctor. It was a more personal experience and you have more control over YOUR pregnancy and delivery.
References :
I used a hospital midwife with my third baby, and loved her.. But, just like with anyone, if you dont jive with them, switch.. Mine was awesome..Loved her.. Then I had one midwife for my homebirths.. Same thing.. She was great! I hate docs now! They do have their place, like when I had my m/c, but I dont think I could have another one deliver...
