Where do Doctors change clothes in a hospital?
My sister-in-law is a Doctor. She told me that there is one locker room shared by both male and female doctors, and they change clothes together. She said they see naked bodies all the time, so its no big deal. She doesn’t know if its just local hospitals, or all over. Does anyone out there have any info on this?
She said it was in some of the older hospitals, and there was only one locker room to change in for the operating room.
Well, not an authoritative answer. But I asked a friend’s wife who is a surgeon (late 30s, and hot looking for sure). She said that there was one shared area for changing. The Doctors removed outerwear (Blue jeans, sweat shirts, etc), and put on appropriate surgical scrubs. A lot of hospitals were cold, so the staff would wear long underwear and T-shirts underneath. There were single-sex locker rooms where they could change, but that was not always convenient. They also often changed in the on-call rooms.
How “modest” one could be depends on where he/she was prior to entering the changing room. At first, she tried to dress appropriately for undressing. Then, she had to change from a sweatshirt to scrubs. She had no bra underneath, and there were male surgeons present. No time to go anywhere else to change. After that, she was OK with it. But she has never been naked or seen any doctor naked (sometimes wearing a only a towel, but never naked). She also says there was no sex going on.
Just to update, I asked my friend’s wife again, and she said there were always separate rooms available. But, her first few years after medical school not always the opportunity to take the time to use them. And she never saw anyone naked (woman topless from time to time, but never naked). They were always wearing underwear. If she had taken the time to go elsewhere and change, she might have lost the opportunity to observe whatever procedure she needed to observe from the beginning.
Now that her schedule is more established, no more coed changing rooms.
In the hospitals I’ve worked at there were always separate locker rooms for men and women. There are also on call rooms where doctors spend the night where you can change.

Your sister-in-law is correct. What she DIDN’T tell you is that we also frequently enjoy certain "benefits" of that arrangement (wink-wink). Nobody suspects this outside of the hospital, though – it is our little secret.

Every facility that I have ever worked in (numerous hospitals and surgery centers) has had a male locker room and a female locker room. Older places may call them the "Doctors’ Locker Room" and the "Nurses’ Locker Room", but they are separated by gender.
Sounds like BS to me. I sure as hell don’t want to see my male colleagues naked bodies. It’s bad enough that we have to see the patients’ naked bodies.
