National Time Out Day 2009 at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla

The surgical team at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla created and implemented a new check list for our Time Out process based on the World Health Organization’s three part check list. We designed our check lists to be specialty-specific to address the unique issues of each surgical specialty. To augment our efforts in implementing the check lists by our OR teams and improving our Time Out process, we created a video outlining the entire process from pre-induction of the patient to sign out. We have used this video to educate staff and physicians to ensure adherence to the process as well as consistency in utilization of the Time Out process.
