Washington Hospital’s Gamma Knife Program is led by one of the most accomplished teams of specialized physicians, physicists and nurses. Medical Directors neurosurgeon Sandeep Kunwar, MD, and radiation oncologist David Larson, MD, PhD, are both nationally and internationally recognized for their expertise, innovation and leadership in the field of Gamma Knife radiosurgery. Indian ‘holy man’ perplexes doctors

May 82010

Doctors and experts are baffled by an Indian man who claims not to have eaten or drunk anything for 70 years – but is still in perfect health.

A team of scientists and doctors in Sterling Hospital, in the western Indian city of Ahmedabad, are studying the claims of Prahlad Jani, a local holy man, who is over 70 years old.

He claims to have been blessed by a goddess when he was 8-years-old, which has enabled him to survive without sustenance and that he derives energy through meditation.

Most people can live without food for several weeks, with the body drawing on its fat and protein stores. But the average human can survive for only three to four days without water.

Al Jazeera’s Imran Khan reports.

Pain management is a right not a privalige.

May 12010

It never fails, if you are a patient with chronic pain issues you are automatically suspected of being an addict. I have a message for the president and I want him to listen to it. The DEA is attacking our doctors for prescribing pain medication, not for prescribing too many but just if you are prescribed pain meds, basically opiates, then you are forced to sign a contract that says you will not use illegal drugs while in the care of your doctor. The problem is they say medical marijuana is illegal so they threaten the doctor in order to force them to cut you off if you use medical marijuana. They did it to me and sent me into withdrawals along with the chronic pain i’m in constantly.

Bernard, the Hospital Puppet – Pre-Op Teaching, 1980

April 282010

Bernard the Hospital Puppet and his Mommy, Pediatric Therapist Diana Chiles, came to Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee in 1991. Before becoming a Tennessee boy, Bernard was a “patient” at MBMC (Mississippi Baptist Medical Center) in Jackson, MS. This sweet video was filmed in 1980 and was the first time Bernard was ever on television.

The precious children in the video are Tiffany (daughter of MBMC’s Pediatric Head Nurse, Ella), Alex (son of one of our favorite Orthopedic Surgeons), and Matt and Brad (sons of Boyd and Jo Anne, and brother to Amanda, a beautiful baby girl who had died a few days before this segment was filmed). Even after all these years, this video still touches my heart.

For more information about this very special ministry, see Bernard’s web site: http://www.hospitalpuppet.com
